After 5 years of apartment living, we were ready to have more stability in our lives, and decided now is the perfect time to buy. We've sat on the sidelines the last few years as the bottom fell out of the housing market. We think prices have gone about as low as they're going to go, and interest rates certainly are attractive right now. I couldn't agree more with the recommendation to pre-qualify for a loan. If you're serious about purchasing a home, getting pre-qualified makes real estate agents & sellers take you more seriously. 7 months in our new home, we paid $264,000 and although we took out a 15 year loan at 4.6%, our plan is to pay off our loan in 12 years.
